Big Brother in the media
Big Brother in the media
The Australian media has various insights regarding to its attention of reality TV shows. Big Brother is one of the most popular reality shows amongst the wide range of contenders within its field, and therefore a range of opinions have arisen about the shows intent and how the show is just a huge plug for all sorts of sponsors.
I have found a number of news items in which I shall be directing my attention to in regards to Big Brother. I have chosen three news articles from different newspapers that I shall be comparing and contrasting with each other, they are articles from The Courier Mail and The Australian.
The ways in which different newspapers regard Big Brother and its intent towards the public eye as being purely a sponsor bonanza, various throughout, as the show has mass ratings and everything revolving around the show is just sponsor driven. The media has various opinions on the show, both negative and positive. Some media items see Big Brothers stance within the media as a positive impact towards the public, as the ratings of the show have sky rocketed in the past months. Although the show has had all types of comments put forward about it, Big Brother continues is ride in producing a media frenzy for the sponsors, products, and companies that it chooses to promote. There will always be different views of the show in all news treatments no matter what subject of topic is at issue.

To some media items this is exactly how the show is depicted amongst them.
There are different variations amongst the different media items. The first Australian media item that I will be looking at is an article from The Australian dated May 2 May 8. The article is quite well seen in relation to the physical placement of it. The article is placed on page 10, which regards the article as having some importance. The article itself takes up over half the page including 3 pictures and a reasonably sized headline. The article is one of three articles situated on that page and easily by far is the main attraction of that news page. Some language choices and consequent tone of items within this article from The Australian are quite unfavourable in a very subtle manner within the news item. The article, using such words and phrases such as ...a conspicuous ratings...
