Synopsis

Night has fallen. Bombs are placed in the worlds largest building. A man rants about how the first step to take towards eternal life is death; while he shoves the barrel of a gun into the mouth of his best friend. " We won't really die." Tyler says. "This isn't really death, we'll be legends.". But soon were the two men are standing will be nothing more than a point in the sky. A time laps camera will pick up all the action in 9 minutes.
"Here is the Parker Morris Building standing. Second picture, the building at an 80 degree angle. Then a 70 degree angle. The building is at a 45 degree angle in the fourth picture skeleton starts to give and the tower gets a slight arch to it. The last shot, the tower, all one-hundred ninety- one floors, will slam down on the national museum which is Tyler's real target." And this is where our book beings.

We examine a man. A man given no name. As the reader we know him only as the narrator. This is a normal every day man. We see his kind a thousand times a day in the business district of any city. This is exactly what he is trying to escape. His entire world is factory produced. All he is in society is a consumer. And he is losing it. He is suffering from real bad insomnia. He goes to the doctor who's only reply is "Nobody has ever died from insomnia. If you want to see real pain go to Trinity Episcopal church Thursday nights." So he did. There at in the basement there is a support group for sufferers of brain parasites. After the meeting he finds himself feeling better. He can sleep again. Soon he is going to not only the brain parasites group but others as well: Testicular cancer, blood parasites, ascending bowel cancer, and others. It is easy or him to feel alive in these groups. That's why it helps. Until one night during testicular cancer she walks in. Enter Marla Singer. Faker, get out of here you tourist, he repeats to himself. Her presents brings out his every lie in these groups. And they stop working for him pushing him a little farther.

Upon returning from a business trip he finds a crater that use to be his apartment in the side of his building. Everything he has worked for in life is now scattered in the street.
