The Death of Marilyn Monroe
“Goddess of the silver screen,” better known as Marilyn Monroe, was one of the most famous actresses in the 1950’s. She was a blond, beautiful woman. Marilyn Monroe was a role model to many Americans and her death had affected millions. Hollywood had lost a rising star in the making, to drugs and alcohol. Many thought they knew Marilyn, but many were wrong.
In the poem, “The Death of Marilyn Monroe” Sherian Olds, writes about how her death had affected the ambulance men. In the first stanza, it is just talking about, how the ambulanced men fixed her up, before lying her on the stretcher. While doing this, they are grieving the lost of a famous actress. Out of respect, they closed her eyes and fixed her arms, so it wouldn’t be hanging lifeless out of the stretcher. They look down at her one more time, and just realized that she looked as if she were still alive, just in a deep sleep.
The men can’t believe that she had died. They look at her as if she were going to wake up and thank them for taking care of her. At the same time, the men look down at her and think that it is such a waste she did that to herself. They couldn’t believe she cut her life short, when she had so much going for her....
