In France, Vicar Hugo is know as one of the greatest poets of all time. Worldwide, however, Hugo is much more widely know for Les Miserables, his internationally successful novel depicting a man in search of justice. Throughout his life, Hugo wrote several other novels, verse, and poetry. it is said that every morning, Victor would write no less than 100 lines of verse or 20 pages of prose.
Not much is known about Victor Hugo’s childhood. He was the third son of Joseph-Leopold Sigisbert, a general in Nepoleon’s Army. Born on February 26, 1802, he spent much of his childhood traveling to places such as Elba, Naples, and Madrid, always returning to Paris. From 1815 through 1818, Victor studied at the PensionCordier and the Lycee Louis Le Grande. He is said to have been a generally poor student. This memory of being a poor student would later inspire the character of Marious in his work, Les Miserables.
